Anthony Smith 7th Ward

“I’m proud to have helped our city spend smarter, not bigger. Mayor Jones and I are working every day to make that happen.”

First elected to the Calumet City Council in 2017, Alderman Anthony Smith brings a level of experience and collaborative ‘know-how’ unique to public service.

A 24-year resident of Calumet City, Alderman Anthony Smith has made mentoring youth and sound financial management his cause. He has coached youth sports – filling a critical role to help guide our kids.

And, as Chairman of the city’s Finance Committee, Smith has worked tirelessly to create a laser-like focus on fiscal accountability – keeping a watchful eye on city spending and holding the line on property taxes.

Working closely with Mayor Thaddeus Jones, Smith helped forge an economic policy that focuses attention on having the city do more with less – just like working families have.

Testimony to their effort and success is the fact that the city hasn’t raised its property tax rate in over four years.

In addition to serving as City Council Finance Chairman, Alderman Smith’s colleagues on the City Council named him Chairman of the Ordinances & Resolutions Committee; Health, Education, and Welfare Committee and Public Works Committee – overseeing the city’s efforts in implementing the Mayor’s infrastructure improvements.

Alderman Anthony Smith has always made taxpayers of the 7th Ward his priority and he’s delivered.
