Priorities

Calumet City Democrats United represents a group of committed public servants who are dedicated to the families of our community and our collective future. Since becoming Mayor, Thaddeus Jones along with these leaders have worked hard to put Calumet City on the right path.  By focusing on those priorities that matter, great progress has been made with much more to come.

Property Taxes

We have held the line on property taxes by doing more with less, just like all of our families do. While Cook County has caused property taxes to rise, we have worked diligently to keep the city’s down. As a change from the previous administration, there has not been a city property tax increase during the last 4 years.

Public Safety

Since Thaddeus Jones became our Mayor, Calumet City has hired 20 new police officers. Our city now also has 21 manned Police Bike Patrol units operating in our neighborhoods. Increasing the presence of our officers helps to deter crime. The funding was secured through millions in grant funding which helps to keep the financial burden off of our residents.

Economy and Rising Costs

We remain dedicated to implementing policies that help families defray costs which have risen in our nation. Fostering a positive business climate here in Calumet City creates jobs and expands our tax base.

Balanced Budgets

Different from the previous administration, our budget has been balanced every time since Jones becoming our mayor. Our economic policies have made this possible and through efficiency, we have simultaneously been able to increase the quality of services for the people of our community.

Improving Infrastructure

Our team has been working hard to improve our infrastructure. Our streets, sidewalks and stormwater retention facilities have all seen improvements with much more on the way. Mayor Jones secured $65 million (at no cost to us) for stormwater management to help solve Cal City’s flooding issues caused by intensifying rain events.

Attracting New Business

During the last 4 years under Mayor Jones’ leadership, his strategy of supporting the private sector and commercial development is working. 90 new businesses have sprouted in Calumet City which expands our tax base and created good new jobs.
